A 1,900 square foot townhouse with a living area/formal dining room anchored by a kitchen with the blank side of the refrigerator glaring from one end, insufficient storage, poor lighting, inadequate serving areas, and a bar with no appreciable overhang.
A built-in refrigerator allowed space for a new storage cabinet with lighted display facing the living/dining area. This is balanced with additions of a plate rack and display above the sinks and in front of the bar—all designed to open up the room and showcase the client’s eclectic pieces of Italian and ethnic stoneware.
Improving functionality and form of the small space, ‘Lazy Susan’ components were added to corner cabinets and an appliance garage was situated adjacent to the refrigerator. The relocated sink, divided into right angles, provides views of both the garden and guests, while the barstools, resized, re-upholstered and refinished to match the iron stair rail in the adjacent hall, invitingly sit beneath a resized bar, with double cabinets space and a new overhang. Finally, hidden electrical outlet strips leave an unbroken decorative backsplash, and the built-in oven and cook top, under mount sinks, and under counter lighting finish the now elegant, formal space. |
